Full Circle:
Works From Hans Viets
// Opening Reception
An exhibit of paintings and sculpture by Hans Viets

You are invited to join us for our Exhibit Opening and Artist Reception on Friday, December 13th,  from 6pm-10pm.

Following the reception, the exhibit will be on display through mid-February and available to view during other scheduled events at Fort Useless or by appointment.

About the Exhibit:
Full Circle is a recent collection of paintings and sculptures by artist, Hans Viets. These artworks are representative of several years of exploration in his Red Hook art studio that might more aptly be described as a laboratory. These "experiments" delve into a range of subjects from myth to mechanism and represent a return to visual art via explorations into music and engineering.

Daina Higgins is a painter and Bryan Bruchman is a photographer. Both were long-time residents of New York City before moving away to other cities -- Daina to Philadelphia, PA, and Bryan to Portland, ME. With the idea in mind that living in NYC can dramatically shape the way a person views other cities, this joint exhibition will focus primarily on works that portray the cities that each called home after leaving NY.

Movements II
Jessica Flanagan presents Movements, a dance series at Fort Useless. This month we'll be focusing on the collaboration of dance, film, and comedy showing a trio of pieces, with the help from our friends at Pentacle's Movement Media.

"In Class With Maria"
A short film by Jessica Flanagan illustrating the amusing stories and conversations that take place in an average ballet class taught by Maria Zannieri at Westside Dance Project in Midtown, Manhattan.

"Best Day Ever"
Created and performed by Kate Taylor, consultant: Michael Henry. First day on her job at Whole Foods, Me gets a welcome gift from her co-workers. A fun, touching piece about hopes and dreams…and reality.

"Adventures In Anytown"
The MerryMakers will round our the night with "Adventures in Anytown", part vaudeville act, part silent film era comedy. This piece is the result of a collaboration between dancers Elizabeth Burwell and Rachel Sattler, and filmmaker Ethan Duff. Dance and film are both effective mediums for visual communication, and by intertwining the two, the MerryMakers created a show that is at once nostalgic and innovative. "The MerryMakers Makes Movies" will explore the ways that nostalgia and image influence the contemporary artist, at the same time morphing into something new. The program will include footage from their show along with clips of influential film images and discussion of their experiences shooting throughout NYC, wearing clown make-up, in the dead of winter. Come to laugh and be inspired, leave tapping your toes!
